Overview
When choosing sunscreen products, your question shouldn’t be, “what’s the right sunscreen?” Rather, you should focus on finding a sunscreen that’s good for you specifically. What’s right for your skin may not be what’s right for your friends. It’s important to choose a sunscreen that aligns with your skin’s needs. Oily skin might beg for a lightweight, matte finish, while dry skin craves something richer and more hydrating. Sensitive skin can be picky, preferring gentler formulas and so on.
By taking your skin type and concerns into consideration, you can find a sunscreen that you’ll actually want to apply (and reapply) every day. Ahead, we’ll break down why your sunscreen choice is so important, and share our recommendations for every skin type. You’ll get an intro to our favorite CeraVe sunscreens for oily, dry, combination, sensitive, and acne-prone skin.

Understanding Sunscreen Types
- Sunscreens can have a wide variety of SPF values, but you’ll want to reach for a product with at least SPF 30.
- Only some sunscreens offer protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Look for the terms “UVB + UVA” on your product labels.
- Texture and finish can make a big difference. Lightweight gels with a matte finish are good picks for oily skin, whereas creamier, more moisturising sunscreen is best for dry skin.
