Intensive Moisturising Lotion
Dry skin can lead to itchiness and discomfort, but the right moisturiser for dry skin can help restore hydration. CeraVe Intensive Moisturising Lotion is designed to relieve and protect against five key signs of dryness—itchiness, tightness, rough texture, flakiness, and redness or discoloration caused by dryness. This fast-absorbing body moisturiser for dry skin penetrates the skin’s surface to provide intense hydration without leaving a greasy or sticky residue. Formulated with three essential ceramides, the lotion also strengthens the skin barrier, which can often be compromised in dry to extra-dry skin types. CeraVe Intensive Moisturising Lotion includes a blend of these three essential ceramides, plus hyaluronic acid and 5% Hydro-Urea (composed of natural moisturising factors). Featuring MVE Delivery Technology, this formula continuously releases moisturising ingredients for up to 72 hours of hydration. It’s allergy-tested, fragrance-free, pH-balanced, and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. For optimal results, apply this moisturiser for dry skin daily for skin that feels smoother, softer, and healthier.

It’s important to apply face moisturiser daily, even if your skin is oily or prone to clogged pores. Moisturising can help maintain your skin’s moisture levels and prevent extreme dryness or oiliness—both of which can impact the look and feel of your skin. It’s a common misconception that those with oily skin should skip moisturiser as a way to “dry out” their skin. In reality, this may do more harm than good. Skipping moisturiser can lead to increased dryness, which, in turn, can cause your skin to overcompensate by producing more oil. Choosing a non-comedogenic moisturiser that’s designed for your skin type can help ensure your skin gets the essential moisture it needs without looking shiny or feeling greasy.
What happens if I don’t moisturise my face every day?
-
Face moisturisers aren’t a one-size-fits-all skincare product. The ideal moisturiser for your skin will depend on several factors, such as your skin type and personal preferences. With that said, there are a few things to look for when choosing a face moisturiser for healthy-looking skin. It’s also important to look for beneficial hydrating ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and ceramides (a key component of your skin barrier).
What should I look for in a face moisturiser?
-
If you want to get the most out of your face moisturiser, you'll need to use it correctly. Moisturisers should generally be applied twice daily as part of a consistent morning and evening skincare routine. They are usually applied after washing your face and applying any serums or targeted treatments (but before applying sunscreen). However, each facial moisturiser will have its own set of instructions, so it's important to read the label carefully and apply as directed.
When should I use face moisturiser?
-
Everyone! Sun protection is a key part of any skincare routine, no matter your skin type or skin tone. For daytime, we recommend using a face moisturiser that includes broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen (or higher) in its formula, such as CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion. Those with normal to oily skin can also try our Ultra-Light Moisturising Lotion with broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen. If your daytime moisturiser doesn't contain sunscreen, remember to apply a separate face sunscreen following your moisturiser. Sunscreen products should also be reapplied at least every two hours during the day for sun protection, in addition to taking other sun protection measures, like seeking shade and wearing protective clothing.
Who should use a facial moisturiser with sunscreen?
-
Facial moisturisers come in a variety of different texture options, including lotions, creams, and gels. Gel moisturisers, such as CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturising Gel, tend to be the most lightweight option. These water-based formulas are a popular choice among people with oily, blemish-prone skin or anyone who prefers a refreshing, weightless feel. Face lotions, like CeraVe PM Facial Moisturising Lotion, offer a slightly richer texture than gels, which can be ideal for normal to dry skin types. Lastly, face creams (like CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream) are generally the thickest and most intensely moisturising option of the three. They tend to be best suited for dry skin (including seasonal dryness) and mature skin.
What's the difference between face lotions, gels, and creams?
-
When choosing a face moisturiser for your skin type, remember to read the product label closely. The label should tell you what you need to know about the moisturiser, including which skin type(s) it's suitable for. If you need additional help finding the right facial moisturiser for your skin's needs, we suggest reaching out to a board-certified dermatologist for guidance.
